Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE)

The Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive (2002/96/EC) became law in the EU in
February 2003. The Directive is designed to tackle the fast increasing waste stream of electrical and
electronic equipment and complements European Union measures on landfill and incineration of waste. It requires manufacturers and importers of wide range of electrical and electronic products to take financial
responsibility for treatment of their products from August 2005.

Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances in electrical and electronic equipment (RoHS)

Directive 2002/95/EC (ROHS) bans the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic
products from July 2006. The substances covered are cadmium, lead, mercury, hexavalent chromium,
polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE).
