The EU RASFF has been operating since 1979, but its legal basis is Regulation (EC) No. 178/2002 Article 50. It is the world’s most developed and effective system for the rapid notification of direct and indirect risks to human deriving from food or feed produced in and imported to the EU. It is a tool for exchange of information regarding unsafe food and feed among 27 EU member states and 3 EFTA countries; Norway, Iceland and Lichtenstein.
